The winner will receive a party toasting their word on May 24 weekend, 2009!

Sociable

"This word is already somewhat associated with "cheers". It was brought to Canadians' attention through Alexander Keiths wonderful beer. It is said by someone who initiates everyone to take a social drink together. What better word to use as a replacement officially for "Cheers"?
Soooociable!!"

Thanks!!

A group of us from the Maritimes were travelling in South Africa this past summer and we had people for many other conuntires using SOCIABLE before we left! Hands down the best replacement for cheers!

Quintessentially Canadian, with it's heritage in Nova Scotia. The birthplace of democracy and original colonies of Canada. There couldn't be a better term to use on this occasion! Sociable!

regardless of where i am in canada, i always yell a sociable at the table a few times over the night. it's heartwarming when two random people will come out of the shadows asking who was calling a sociable: no doubt from the maritimes. by the end of the night, i'd be damned if we don't have the whole bar declaring SOCIABLE!!!!

Sorry, but out East here - we already have one!

Go to any pub in downtown Halifax and you'll hear this word used nightly!

Navy sailors from CFB Halifax and airpersons from 12 Wing Shearwater use this word travelling all over the world!

Considering Halifax has more pubs per capita than any other city in Canada - I think we'd be happy to share this with the rest of Canada and of course... the world.

I thought change from cheers to sociable was put into law years ago... just goes to show, there's no place like home.
